ELBRIDGE, N.Y. — Steve Kinser has an impressive and unmatched record at most of the tracks on the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule, and one that really stands out above the rest is Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York. The 20-time series champion had made 25 starts at the sprawling 5/8-mile facility entering Monday night’s event and had finished in the Top-10 in each and every one of those. He kept this streak going on Memorial Day, as he picked up his 10th A-Feature win at the track and the 545th of his career.

Kinser started on the outside of the front row aboard the Q Oil Maxim and took the lead from Shane Stewart on the opening lap of the event, after a caution led to a complete restart after the initial green flag. From there, the native of Bloomington, Indiana would dominate the race, leading all 25 circuits in an event that would go green to checker in just over 8 minutes and 14 seconds. He began the night by setting fast time in time trials, won the first heat race and was just one spot short of a clean sweep, finishing second in the Crane Cams Dash.

“We’ve always run around this place pretty good and always have a good set-up,” said Kinser from Victory Lane after his second win of 2008. “It’s one of those race tracks that fits our race cars and fits my style of driving. We’ve always been exceptionally fast here. I always enjoy coming here.”

The race began with Shane Stewart jumping to the lead in the first turn, and Kinser battling him on the high side of the track exiting the second turn but the caution flew before a full lap was completed, leading to a complete restart. On the second start, Stewart again led into the first turn, with Kinser charging around him on the outside, exiting the second turn.

SAN BERNADINO, Calif. — The Murphy family, and their After Hours Racing team, left their Lancaster-California home and arrived at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino on the afternoon of May 17th for some Legend Car racing with young Broc Murphy behind the wheel. The event was an INEX national points qualifier and the young driver did a very credible job by finishing third in the division’s main event.

Meanwhile the team’s other driver, 15 year old Austin Murphy, was there to help out in the pits. He normally drives the team’s ASA Lucas Oil Late Model and has already collected a feature win and a second place finish in his last two outings at the Orange Show Speedway. However the ASA Late Models were not scheduled to race on this night but that didn’t mean Austin was interested in a ride. A conversation with Jimmy Rouse Sr, the patriarch of another well known southern California racing family, led to an invitation to drive his family’s mini race truck in the ASA Factory Fours an Orange Show Speedway division for small compact cars and trucks.

Rouse had built the race truck for his daughter, Julie, to drive however the young lady was attending her high school prom on this evening and was not going to be at the track. Rouse did caution Murphy that the truck had only one outing and was a little on the slow side during that race. Murphy just smiled and said “hey, it has four wheels and an engine let’s go racing.” A race ride was offered and accepted. The only thing left to be completed was actually getting the ride to the race track. Fortunately the Rouse Racing shop is located in San Bernardino so it wasn’t very long before the shiny red Lucas Oil mini truck was delivered at the track.

The next step was to send the truck through the tech line for inspection which it passed with flying colors. But by the time this process was completed it was time to line up for qualifying. Murphy never had a chance to get some ANZ First Card practice laps in and there was …continue reading
