Provo lecture: Dale W. Nelson will lecture on his book, The Migrations, Alliances and Power of Israel in Western Europe and Central Asia, Monday at 7 p.m. at 55 N. 800 West, Provo. His talk will focus on the lost tribes of Israel.

   

    Star wars: Peter F. Hamilton will read from and sign his new futuristic space adventure, The Dreaming Void, Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 1104 E. 2100 South, Salt Lake City. The book, set in the year 3589, is the first volume in a trilogy.

    Desert memoir: Amy Irvine will read from and discuss her new memoir, Trespass: Living at the Edge of the Promised Land, Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Gore Auditorium on the campus of Westminster College, 1840 S. 1300 East in Salt Lake City. The book chronicles Irvine’s five tumultuous years living and working as a wilderness activist in conservative rural Utah. A reception and book-signing will follow.

   

    Three women: Utah authors Pilar Pobil, Rebecca Guevara and Paisley Rekdal will read from their writings Saturday at a luncheon sponsored by the American Association of University Women. The event will take place at the Market Street Grill Cottonwood, 2985 E. 6580 South, Holladay. The cost is $40, including $15 as a tax-deductible donation to AAUW fellowships for women.

    AdvertisementPoetry champs: Madison Niermeyer, a senior at Skyline High School in East Millcreek, won first place last month in the Poetry Out Loud State Championship, which celebrates the art form of spoken-word poetry. Niermeyer won a cash prize of $200 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete for the national championship.
